Motor vehicle owners can now pay Boston parking tickets online.

The Boston Transportation Department instituted a "Pay by Plate" parking ticket payment option on the city of Boston's Web site. Motorists are now able to go online to determine what they have outstanding with the city in parking ticket fines and fees.

To access "Pay by Plate" from cityofboston.gov, click on Pay by Web. A prompt will be displayed to enter your vehicle registration number along with your birth month and day.

The balance currently due will appear on the screen in addition to the ticket number, issue date, type of violation and location where it was issued.

City of Boston issued parking tickets must be paid, or a request for a hearing to appeal must be made, within 21 days to avoid incurring additional fees.
